Lindokuhle Skosana is a South African multidisciplinary artist, specialising in fine art portraiture on canvas. He is interested in the honest portrayal of the black male personhood, body, and experience. By painting specifically black males, he believes that he's given the ability to add his voice and tone in the representations of real identities. Within this subject matter, Lindokuhle aims to artistically interpret and understand the African male's duality as a victim and as a perpetrator. Being a man in this country positions him as a reliable storyteller when it comes to experiences as a perpetrator and a victim of several inherent experiences simultaneously. He is especially inspired to depict the reality of the black man, completely, currently, and honestly.
This investigation has informed the majority of Lindokuhle's recent portrait work. With a background in film-making as a writer and director, image composition has always been significant to Lindokuhle.
As a visual narrator he finds that portraits tell definite stories, and the authenticity with which he wants to tell the stories of the black experience works perfectly with his medium of choice.
Portraits tell fundamental truths about humanity and identity.
