Transient

This collection of eclectic works centers around scenarios portraying fleeting moments that dwell on the boundaries between dream and reality.
Since magical elements are placed against a backdrop of the South-African landscape the works can be categorized in the genre of magical realism where the line between nature and imagination is blurred.
Liekie creates spaces where past and future exist simultaneously and uses this contrast to underwrite the feeling of transience.
Her work strongly focuses on connections between heaven and earth, between worlds seen and unseen and reminds us that impermanence can increase the worth of short-lived things.
Technically Fouché's work consists of oil-pastel, acrylic paint and graphite-pencil drawings on board but since multiple layers of varnish are added, the end product resembles paintings. Colour, balance, and contrast are important elements in the work, and photo-collage is often added to achieve an unexpected interaction between the technique of pastel-drawing and photography.
