The Voice of the Voiceless

My work explores the harmonization of opposites through a vibrant abstract expressionist lens, where I express emotions, memories, influences, and transformation as a significant driver. I find inspiration in the natural world, everyday life experiences, the circles of life and spiritual awareness through the directions and seasons we pass through in life.
My paintings and drawings become a visual representation of this concept. A testament to the power of integration and radiance that emerges from the synthesis of duality through experimentation with available media and techniques. I invite the viewer to join me on this journey of transformation to embrace the unity that lies beyond the boundaries of opposites and to bask in the illuminating glow of synthesis.
Melusi Njabulo Hadebe (born 1990) hails from Katlehong and is a contemporary fine artist, educator and activist best known for working in abstract art expression. He showed interest and passion for art while in primary school when his asthmatic condition limited his playing with other children, but because of this, he began creating and experimenting with different types of drawings, such as Pokémon cartoons and Dragon Ball Z.
He relocated to Newcastle and while in Grade 11 won first place in his age category at the Provincial Art Competition hosted by the KwaZulu-Natal Arts and Culture Department. He matriculated in 2008 joined Avalanche Media and completed training in acting, poetry, drama and theatre. At the age of 19, he returned to Katlehong. Between 2009 and 2010, he joined the Tsebo Art Programme held at the Katlehong Art Centre and attended a series of art classes and was introduced to a variety of art media such as ceramics, sculpture and drawing. In 2011 Hadebe enrolled for a course in printmaking at the Artist Proof Studio to polish his art skills and techniques. He completed a National Diploma in Fine Arts (2016) at the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). He further obtained a B-Tech, F.A. (2018) degree at the same university majoring in painting. In 2019, Hadebe completed a postgraduate certificate in education from the University of Johannesburg (UJ).
Hadebe was featured in group shows at Pretoria and Johannesburg art galleries, such Trent, ST Lorient Art Gallery, That’s it Art Gallery, Springs Art Gallery - What teaching teaches me, Weedlovers - Past Present and Future, Joburg Open City, Express On Joburg Contra, Weedlovers Market 1 Thursday and prestigious art competitions in South Africa. He is currently an art educator and mentor at the East St Rand School of the Arts in Benoni. He was featured in SABC channels for video interviews.
