In assessing history one cannot help but find certain objects that are believed to have special powers to influence the day-to-day living and associations to life for the individual. In multiple cultures throughout history we find such objects that are cherished, known as totems. Totems are associated with spirits, religion and the community's success, hence we see them being passed down from generation to generation.
The " O " foreman paintings is a series of figurative depictions, inspired by the concept of using totems to demonstrate the close relationship humans have with nature and holding on to ideas/ideals. The O foreman painting series serves as a form of protection and a way to present the idea and ideals behind totems in an art form. In multiple cases we have seen artworks pushed down through generations to a point where they are held to have special characteristics that can bring good luck or be dreadful in some special cases to the holder of the artwork. Such is the case with totems; they can bring good luck or bring misfortune to the holder.
This collection of works serves as a symbolic representation of the history of individual clans and items that have been used throughout history within these clans to develop a way of living.
