Tall Tales: Marisa du Toit and her students

"I mostly feel like an inventor thinking that I can paint, invent anything, it is liberating and extremely satisfying. I grow a lot with every painting I make, and I am so excited to see how I can push my own boundaries next."

Marisa du Toit's art has strong symbolic reference and she incorporates her passion for poetry into her work along with faith related references and beliefs woven into her work. She has developed her own style and loves to explore every new skill she gains with every painting and sketch she makes. The learning process is part of her ongoing growth as a young self-taught artist. Marisa is also skilled as a mosaic artist and jeweller.

Marisa's art classes enable her students to discover the hidden art of interpretation and visual storytelling, and consequently the story and character elements are prominent in their work as well. A fantastical realm where trees can fight for themselves (nine-year-old Gidon Jansen), a three dimensional environment where monsters and machines live together (eight-year-old Jason Bredell), to name but a few.
