Aneesa Loonat was born (1984) in Port Elizabeth and completed her degree in Fine Art in 2017 at Nelson Mandela University.
She was awarded a merit award for the Sasol New Signatures competition in 2016 and made the top 30 for the SA Taxi Awards in the same year.
Now living and working in Cape Town, Aneesa has hopes of completing her Masters degree in Fine Art, focussing on painting and code at the Michaelis School of Fine Art.
Through the medium of figurative painting, I explore the complexities of the human experience, capturing the essence of emotion, gesture, and the subtle nuances of expression that define our individuality. My paintings are a celebration of the human form, a testament to the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.
In my work, I strive to transcend the boundaries of mere representation, breathing life into my figures and imbuing them with a sense of authenticity that resonates with the viewer. I am drawn to the human condition, its contradictions and complexities, the moments of joy and sorrow, the quiet contemplations and the bursts of passionate expression.
My paintings are not merely visual depictions of people; they are narratives, unfolding stories that invite the viewer to engage with the subjects on a deeper level. I seek to capture the essence of who they are, their hopes and dreams, their fears and vulnerabilities, their unique perspectives on the world.
With each brush stroke, I strive to convey the essence of humanity, to capture the spark of life that resides within each of us. My paintings are a testament to the power of art to connect us, to transcend differences, and to remind us of our shared humanity.
I have started to explore creative coding and using my paintings together with the code that I develop, the paintings and drawings take on a new dimension and abstract forms are produced. Each iteration of the code produces a different result, an idea that resonates with individual experience and thought.
