Moments of childhood series
This body of work is a celebration of the raw, unfiltered wonder of childhood, - a world where time stretches endlessly and imagination knows no border. Through the eyes of a child, ordinary spaces become fantastical realms, and simple moments are infused with joy, curiosity and emotional depth. I focus on the all-consuming childhood years where the days are long, but the years so short.
My inspiration comes from observing the rhythms of my child's day: playing in a tub of cold water, allowing the cow to lick your hand, dancing in your room with your favourite princess dress.
Each piece reflects the small yet profound milestones that define early life - exploration, discovery, connection and play.
Using vibrant colour and dynamic composition, I aim to capture the spirit of movement and the emotional intensity that so often goes unnoticed in childhood. By having some areas out of focus, I portray the fleeting moment, which was not so long ago, but now I seem to have forgotten already.
The series is not just about children, it is about honouring the brief, beautiful time when the world is entirely new, and every experience is lived with full presence. In documenting these fleeting moments, I hope to evoke in viewers a sense of nostalgia, tenderness and renewed appreciation of the simple, yet significant journey of growing up.
The ornate and the overlooked
These beetle paintings are part of my exploration of small wonders - the quiet, intricate lives that often go unnoticed beneath our feet. By isolating each insect against soft, minimal backgrounds, I invite the viewer to slow down and truly see the extraordinary detail, colour, and structure that nature designs so effortlessly.
I'm drawn to the jewel-like surfaces and the sculptural forms of these creatures. Painting them at an intimate scale allows me to celebrate both their delicacy and their strength. Each brushstroke becomes an act of observation and appreciation.
Through this series, I hope to spark a renewed sense of curiosity - a reminder that beauty is not only found in the grand and dramatic, but also in the small, resilient, and often overlooked.
Imagination
My work explores the space where the natural world slips into imagination. By combining animals with fruit and plant forms, I create hybrid creatures that feel both familiar and somewhat impossible. These paintings invite viewers to pause, smile, and reconsider the boundaries we place between categories-animal and object or realism and fantasy.
Each subject is rendered with care and detail, honouring its recognisable parts, while the unexpected combinations encourage curiosity rather than explanation. A banana becomes a bird, a pear becomes an elephant, a pomegranate takes flight. These transformations are not meant to be logical; they are intuitive, playful, and open-ended.
The bold backgrounds create a calm, unified space, allowing the subjects to exist outside of time and place. This simplicity keeps the focus on form, colour, and personality, giving each creature a quiet presence despite its surreal nature.
Ultimately, my work celebrates imagination as a way of seeing-one that values joy, curiosity, and the freedom to look at the world a little differently.
