Maryna Joubert

"During the quiet lockdown time I was privileged  to delve deep into my subconscious,  just creating with no pressure and no intent. The free floating methods of mixed media and limited art material allowed me to work and re-work images up to saturated imaginary landscapes."

Maryna Joubert is a South African contemporary artist, with roots in both Pretoria and Jeffrey's Bay. She finds inspiration in the concept of Mother Earth, with respect for life as dictated by ecological principles.

Growing up on a farm, living close to nature and caring deeply for it, was an integral part of Maryna Joubert's life. Doing ceramics in her own teaching studio for ±25 years, delving deep into her senses and nature, enabled her to merge nature and art and for it to become part of her life.

Maryna has completed her Honours degree in Fine Arts at Unisa. Coming from a medical background, as a nursing sister for many years and a passion for people, she completed an MA in Practical Theology at Unisa and curated an exhibition of art done by dis/abled people.

Maryna spends time at the Eastern Cape coast, photographing the nature that's so close to her heart. She combines her digital photographs with drawings, creating layered images and landscapes. She is deeply aware of earth pollution and the threat to our world, animals and people, a prominent thinking process and revelation in her current artworks.
