Collin M Thabang's passion for photography began the day he realized how much he appreciates being in close proximity to people and nature, documenting life as it unfolds. His work is influenced by events that occur around him.
The concepts and series created by Thabang are derived from moments of sadness or happiness, which might be an activity that reminds him of his childhood or anything that happened to him. Thabang always strives to paint and portray an image that will symbolize what he felt at the moment of creating that particular artwork.
Collin M Thabang was born in the village settlement in Petersburg, Mpumalanga, in the summer of 1994, and transferred to Verena in Mpumalanga during the winter of 1996. Circumstances compelled his mother to leave him with his grandmother to go to work in order for them to survive. When life hands you a lemon, turn it into lemonade, like Thabang's mother did when she was given a film camera, which led to him being the photographer he is today.
From the age of 12 years, Collin practised photography using the film camera that was gifted to his mother, making money in order to be able to have lunch money at school and the business grew from there, and he was able to buy essentials such as electricity and maize meal from the profit made with the camera at an age of 14 years.
